Vivian was born on Sept. 10, 1922 to Ernest and Gaynell Cobble in Mosheim, Tenn. She attended public schools in Mosheim and Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tenn., where she met BO, her husband of 63 years. She and BO made their home in Kingsport, Tenn., in 1945 after World War II. She lived there until 2010 when she moved to The Pines.
BO and their daughter, Susan Ripley Costner, predeceased her in 2006 and 2008 respectively. Her brother, Raymond E. Cobble, also predeceased her.
Vivian is survived by her daughter, Paula Ripley Bell, and her husband, Harold, of Davidson, and her son, Richard O. Ripley, and his wife, Mary, of Kingsport, Tenn. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Vivian was truly a wonderful wife, mother and role model for her family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, golf and serving her church, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, in Kingsport. She was a loving and accepting person, and all of us whom she touched so graciously shall miss her smile every day.
The family is very grateful for the marvelous care that Vivian received from her physicians, Hospice and The Pines. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Pines (Resident Support Fund), Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
A memorial reception for Vivian will be held in the Parlor of The Pines on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 4:00 to 5:00pm. There will also be a memorial service for Vivian at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Kingsport on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 4:00pm, immediately followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall to greet the family.
James Funeral Home, Huntersville, is serving the family. www.jamesfuneralhomeLKN.com
