Wilbur Marvin Houston, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville. He was 86. Mr. Houston was born March 21, 1926, to the late Logan Espie Houston and Alice Torrence Houston in Mecklenburg County. He was a lifetime member of Davidson Presbyterian Church USA of Davidson, where he served as Ruling Elder, Treasurer, Member of the Finance Committee, Usher Board; Member of Lions Club, and member of Christian Aid Society Cemetery.
Mr. Houston was the First African American volunteer firefighter in Davidson. He graduated from the Colored School of Davidson, in 1944 and he served in the USA Navy.
Survivors include: one daughter, Karee T. Reid (Mazon) of Davidson; two sisters, Frances H. Beale of Davidson; and Nannie H. Potts (Gerald) of Cornelius; one brother, Albert G. Houston (Naomi) of Davidson; four grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 8, 7:00pm-8:30pm at the W.H. Bryant, A.E. Grier & Sons Funeral Home, Mooresville. Funeral Services will be Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012 at 2:00pm at the Davidson Presbyterian Church USA. with Rev. Darrell A. VanPelt, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow at the Christian Aid Society Cemetery, Davidson, NC. W. H. Bryant, A. E. Grier & Sons Funeral Home is serving the Houston Family.
