Geneva B. Bowles, of Cornelius, beloved mother and devoted wife, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 18, 2012, at 8:20 a.m. after a long struggle with dementia. She lived her life in the service of the Lord as the wife of Rev. Basil L. Bowles, who went to his reward on June 13, 1971.
“I just want to go to Heaven,” was the foremost wish she could communicate, other than “I love you,” when she could still communicate. She will be greatly missed by her family and her son who cared for her for many years. The void left by her passing will be filled by memories and
God’s love.
She was born in Filbert, W.Va., as was the rest of her family. She was known as Ms. Geneva by friends and “Aunt Nee Nee” by her family.
Mom loved to travel and did so extensively. She loved watching auto racing, and was a big fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Jr. She also loved her Carolina Panthers, and her favorite player was Steve Smith. Cooking gave her great joy. And what a cook she was!
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents John and Ida Blevins; brothers, John “Gabby,” Earl, Raymon and Curtis Belvins. Survivors include her son, David Bowles; nephew, Fred Blevins and wife Becky, and their children, Prudence Jennings and Wesley Blevins and wife Brandi, nieces, Drema Blevins and her daughter, Tina Stephens, Lisa Blevins Martin and her
daughter, Jennifer Blevins and sister-in-law, Billie Blevins. We are diminished.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Widows of the Church of God Ministers, Charlotte, or Gordon Hospice House, Statesville.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel of James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Drive, Huntersville, NC at 11:00 AM Friday, June 22, 2012 with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Concord. Dr. Greg Sloop will officiate.
