David Edward Burns of Cornelius died on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011. He was 34.
Mr. Burns was a native of Winston-Salem and graduated from Davidson College in 1999, where he played basketball and majored in art. He lived in Cornelius with his wife, Amanda, and three sons.
He was born Dec. 28, 1976 to Herb and Susan Burns. He attended Bishop McGuiness High School in Winston-Salem, where he recently had been inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame. He went on to Davidson, where he received a basketball scholarship. After graduation, he was a professional artist. He also worked several years in the circulation department of the Charlotte Observer. Along with his wife, he was a member of The Cove church in Mooresville.
He is survived by his wife Amanda Burns and their three children, Isaac (5), Aaron (3), and Jordan James (10 mo); his parents, Herb and Susan Burns; brother, Herbie Burns and wife Elizabeth and daughters Anna and Abby Burns; Amanda’s father Gerry Davis and wife Karen La Chapelle; Amanda’s mother Jan and her husband Dan Collins; Amanda’s brother Brendan and wife LeighAnn and daughter, Linley; brother Dylan and wife Kristen, and children Jadyn, Raegan, and Douglas; grandparents Ruth and Ed Seiler; Ruth Anderson; and Irmagene Davis; and other extended family.
A memorial service is planned Sunday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m. at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a memorial fund for their children. Details will be available at the memorial service.

The Winston-Salem Journal wrote an appreciation of David Burns after talking to former classmates at Bishop McGuinness High School. The article says he apparently died of a heart attack.
