Lake Norman Regional Medical Center 2011 Junior Volunteers.

MOORESVILLE – The Volunteer Auxiliary of Lake Norman Regional Medical Center recently welcomed 30 students from around the region as this year’s Summer Junior Volunteers. The program provides real-world experience for students interested in health care careers.

“Our intent is to match students with volunteer jobs in their areas of interest,”  Bette Weese, Junior Volunteer Chair for the Hospital Auxiliary, said in a press release.

Each summer, local teens from Iredell, Mecklenburg, Catawba and Lincoln counties are offered the unique opportunity to receive intensive volunteer training at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center by applying for a spot in the hospital’s Junior Volunteer program. Out of the 62 applications they received this year they accepted 30 Junior Volunteers for the summer.

The group is comprised of rising high school Juniors and Seniors from area schools. Before starting their shadowing and volunteer responsibilities in various hospital departments, the junior volunteers completed training in hospital safety, HIPAA regulations and patient privacy. The teens are volunteering in several different departments of the hospital. “The program could not function without the staff at Lake Norman Regional taking the time to provide duties for the juniors to do,” states Bette Weese.
