“All classes can be tailored to any level as there are modifications for each pose,” Ms. Brutus-Phillips said. So students of all abilities – including those who have never tried yoga before – are encouraged to attend.

“I believe yoga can be experienced by anyone who has an interest in wanting to live a healthy life, finding peace through their own spiritual path, and finding a better way of living,” Ms. Brutus-Phillips said.

The “suggested donation” classes meet from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Oasis, 100 South Maxwell Ave., Suite E, Huntersville.

Students should dress in comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement, and should bring a bottle of water and a mat. Water and mats also are available at the studio.

ABOUT THE OWNER:

Amanda is the owner of Oasis Therapeutic Massage and Yoga Center, and is a registered yoga instructor and licensed massage therapist. She is also a former educator, and holds a B.S. in biology and a M.S. ed. in education.  She has been practicing yoga for more than eight years in the vinyasa style and teaching for four years and is a Registered Yoga Instructor. 

She received her 200-hour training with Elizabeth Hoffman of Urban Bliss and has studied with Stephanie Keach of Asheville Yoga Center for her Vinyasa Certification.  She also has studied with experts David Swenson, Judith Lassiter, and Patricia Whalen, Rod Stryker, Vinnie Marino, and others.

“Yoga gives me the opportunity to serve others and I feel truly honored for each student that I get an opportunity to administer too,” she said.

Amanda was born in Guyana, South America but grew up in the Bronx, New York where she worked with underprivileged teenagers preparing them for successful entry into post-secondary careers.  She moved with her husband to Cornelius eleven years ago  and is the proud mother of two wonderful young girls.
