Feb . 6 blood drive at DCPC to honor Steve Sgouros

Davidson College Presbyterian Church’s Community Missions Committee will sponsor its winter Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday, Feb. 6, between the hours of 2 and 6:30 pm. It will be a special day of loving and giving. This drive is being held in memory of Steve Sgouros who died this past December.

Steve was the fiancé of church member Kate Lacey. In honor of Steve, our décor and snacks will have a Greek flavor. Steve made donating at DCPC a priority and the church is asking the members of DCPC to come and donate in memory of Steve. Come enjoy the fun and give the gift of life!

The Feb. 6 drive will be at the Congregation House, on Concord Road, Davidson. Schedule an appointment by contacting the church office at 704-892-5641. Be sure to bring a photo I.D. with you.

Davidson College Presbyterian Church will host a Red Cross Blood Drive Sunday, June 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donors will be celebrated with a brunch including made to order omelets.

Appointments may be scheduled through the church office, at 704-892-5641. Donors should bring a photo ID.

Summer blood donors can mean the difference between an adequate blood supply and a shortage. This and other early summer drives will help ensure sufficient blood supplies during times when donations are down due to vacations and time off, the church said in an announcement.

‘Race to Nowhere’ screening Mon. at DCPC

Woodlawn School and Davidson College Presbyterian Church are hosting a screening of “Race to Nowhere,” produced by a mother of teens out of concern for her kids. The screening is Monday, May 16, 7 p.m., in DCPC Congregation House, 218 Concord Road.

The film examines the high-pressure culture that has invaded many schools and many children’s lives. It’s intended to shine a light on the price young people pay for competing.

The screening has been organized by Neal Bartl, a Woodlawn School junior and Davidson resident. A discussion after the film will include comments by teacher Jeff Joyce, of W.A. Hough High School, and Beth Helfrich, of Woodlawn School.

On Valentine’s Day, give blood at DCPC

Davidson College Presbyterian Church will host a Red Cross Blood Drive on Valentine’s Day, Monday, Feb. 14, from 2-7 p.m. in the Congregation House on Concord Road. Donors will have the chance to win one of two gift baskets being given away in drawings.
