The Davidson Greenways, Trails and Bikeways Advisory Board and area cycling shops and programs are sponsoring Davidson Bikestation 2011 on the Village Green during Town Day on Saturday, May 7.

Running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event will allow participants to learn more about cycling in Davidson, swap used bikes, and meet other area cyclists.

Free helmets, bells and bike accessories will also be available at the Bikestation, while supplies last.

Planning Manager Lauren Blackburn, a cyclist and the town staffer assigned to the greenways board, said the goal is to offer some additional education for cyclists.

“This year at Town Day, we’d like to help educate residents on some of the more practical or functional aspects of cycling, including how to maintain their bikes and how to repurpose or reuse them,” she said.

“We also hope to provide some updated information on where some of our newer cycling and walking facilities are located,” Ms. Blackburn said. “We’re really looking forward to the event.”
