My name is Allie Sadoff and I rode in the 24 Hours of Booty. It is a bike ride that raises money for the fight against cancer. I am eight years old and I found out I had cancer in November of 2011. I wanted to do the booty ride because my Granddad did it last year. I raised over $5,700 to hopefully help other people fight cancer. With my friends and family we raised $600.35 selling snow cones at the Davidson Farmer’s Market. Team Allie Gator raised a total of over $20,000!

Allie got to ride Friday night in a Corvette marked “survivor.”

Twenty-Four Hours of Booty started on Friday evening and ended Saturday night. On Friday evening I rode in a Corvette at the start at the ride. The Queen City Corvette club drove cancer survivors around the first loop to start the ride. Right after I rode on the Corvette, I saw the best rainbow (see below), and it made me feel great.

We were supposed to ride around a loop, which is three miles long. When I was riding I heard a bunch of people screaming my name, even the riders! It made me feel AWESOME! People were bringing out posters with my name on it and cheering me on! It was inspiring me to go faster and try hard. My granddad, my dad, my brother and Robert Coggins, who rides a unicycle, rode together with me. I was so proud that I did the loop! After the ride was over, people were coming up to me, and congratulating me on a job well done.

When my cancer treatment is finished, I am still going to ride again next year because I want to help other people to fight cancer.

Eight-year-old Allie Sadoff of Davidson was inspired last year when her grandfather rode in Charlotte’s 24 Hours of Booty bicycle fundraiser for cancer research. So she began making plans to join this year’s ride. Then last fall she was diagnosed with cancer herself, a tumor in her cheek. With her treatment nearly done, she’s still planning to ride two weeks from now – but as both a cyclist and a patient.

Allie will be among 1,200 people pedaling in the 24-hour bike ride July 27-28 on the closed streets of Charlotte’s Myers Park neighborhood. They’re expected to raise more than $1.2 million for cancer research, according to the Charlotte-based nonprofit 24 Hours of Booty.

The Charlotte ride, and similar events now held in Atlanta, Columbia, S.C., and Indianapolis, help support a variety of local and national charities, including LIVESTRONG, Levine Cancer Institute, Brain Tumor Fund of the Carolinas.

As she seeks sponsors for her ride, Allie is hosting events to drum up interest and support. At this Saturday’s Davidson Farmer’s Market, she and friends will be selling snow cones. The market runs 8 a.m. to noon in the parking area next to Town Hall in downtown Davidson. Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream also will be selling special sundaes next week for Allie’s Team AllieGator. As of this week, Allie had raised more than $3,300 for a cause that has become her own.

“Allie was diagnosed in November, so this became more of a personal thing for us,” said her mom, Pam Sadoff. “And it has been something we could look forward to, at the end of Allie’s treatment.”

Riding with Allie will be her mom, her brother, J. Sadoff, 12, dad John Sadoff Jr. and grandfather John Sadoff Sr.

Allie and her family live on Fairview Lane in Davidson’s St. Alban’s neighborhood. She completed second grade last month at Davidson Elementary School and with her family’s impending move to Mooresville, she’ll be a third-grader at Woodland Heights Elementary there.

She has rhabdomyosarcoma, a soft-tissue cancer that occurs most often in children. The diseases was diagnosed after she complained of ear aches and then facial numbness.

Fortunately, doctors caught the tumor early and she has undergone chemotherapy and radiation treatments since last fall. She’ll end her treatments in September.

Allie said she originally just wanted to ride with her grandfather. “When I saw grandaddy, I thought it would be really fun,” she said this week.

After her own cancer was discovered, she realized that as a cancer patient herself the ride would mean something more. “It’s pretty cool,” she said with the enthusiasm of an 8-year-old girl.

The training ride is co-hosted with Team Mountain Khakis (Team MK). “It’s such a privilege to be associated with 24 Hours of Booty this year, and when we saw the opportunity to take a spin with Spencer and other Booty supporters, we jumped at the chance,” Adam Myerson, captain and manager of Team Mountain Khakis, said in a press release. “The ‘Booty Loop’ is legendary, and it’ll be great to stretch our legs with the Charlotte cycling community before we head off to race on Saturday in Blythewood, South Carolina.”

Participating cyclists are welcome to join for as many laps as they wish, and are asked to be respectful to traffic laws and other users of the “Booty Loop” during this free and open gathering.

Team Mountain Khakis began as Time Pro Cycling in 2006. The team has grown into its current incarnation under the guidance of team owners Jamie Bennett and Pat Raines, both former professional cyclists and North Carolina residents.
