Any woman runner knows that shin splints, runner’s knee and IT band syndrome are among the hazards of a regular running regimen. Dr. John Gross tells Women’s Running Magazine that it’s important to know what these are and now to treat them. He recommends a tactic he calls RICE, for Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. MOORESVILLE – Lowe’s YMCA said Wednesday it will open a new “wellness center” within its walls, staff full-time by a registered nurse, through a partnership with Carolinas HealthCare System. The arrangement makes Mooresville the 12th branch in the Greater Charlotte Y system to have a wellness center of this kind. Continue Reading

Anyone diagnosed with cancer can relate to the importance of maintaining a positive attitude.
With that in mind, a group of women in our community meet quarterly for fun, fellowship and periodically, a guest speaker. Called the Women’s Cancer Wellness Group, they come under the “umbrella” of the Davidson College Presbyterian Church (DCPC). Church member Mary Ann Mabry currently serves as the coordinator.
