Davidson Lifeline, a citizen-led and town-supported suicide prevention committee, is offering free QPR training. QPR stands for “Question, Persuade, Refer” and is a curriculum created by the QPR Institute for Suicide Prevention. Classes begin next week and are aimed at teens and adults. Read the full story

Davidson College invites the public on Wednesday afternoon, March 27, to a talk titled “The End of Sex: The Future of Human Reproduction.” Stanford University professor Hank Greely, an expert in reproductive ethics and law, will present that subject beginning at 4:30 p.m. in Hance Auditorium of Chambers Building. Three hundred Davidson College students and staff walked the Davidson College track Friday, March 15, to raise money for the American Cancer Society in the college’s second annual Relay for Life. Altogether, attendees raised $26,685.
Relay for Life is a national non-profit organization that raises funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society. Individuals form teams to seek sponsorship, then spend an entire night walking to raise awareness for cancer research. Read the full story

A Be the Match blood marrow donor registration drive is scheduled Thursday, March 14, from 10am to 2pm at The Ada Jenkins Center, 212 Gamble. St., Davidson.
The drive is organized by the Be the Match Foundation, which is urgently seeking donors in the community to help save the lives of patients with diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, or sickle-cell anemia. Read the full story

Davidson resident Lori Ives-Godwin spent 25 years as a project manager in the corporate world until about five years ago, when she gave it up to start a new business focusing on alternative medicine and spirituality.
Now, she’s someone “who really believes there’s a different way to live on this planet,” she said this week.
Her web-based business, Your Community Connector, is a place for people who share that outlook to find “everything you ever wanted to know about mind-body-spirit events, services and goods found in the Charlotte area.”
Ms. Ives-Godwin also is the founder of Shift Charlotte, a regional annual expo devoted to “health, well-being and a more natural and empowered way of living.” It’s scheduled March 1 and 2 at The Palace, at Kenton Place in Cornelius. Read the full story
