More than 400 cyclists turned out Saturday morning, June 4, at Davidson College for the annual Collier Lilly Ride 4 Life, which raised funds and awareness for  organ donation. The event is named in memory of a Davidson College student who died in 1987.

The Town of Davidson Parks and Recreation department announces its Lake Norman Weight Loss Challenge for the summer.

The community weight loss challenge is a 12-week commitment, and runs from June 16 to Aug. 18. The winner of the challenge will receive a cash prize.

THE PROGRAM

Weekly meetings will be held for participants to weigh in and discuss various nutrition topics, including: 

Protein 101, 
meal plans, snacking and water
, metabolism, 
carbohydrates, shopping and cooking, cellular nutrition
, nutrition labels, fats, portion control, digestive health, dining out, 
fiber, 
sugar, exercise, heart health, and

HUNTERSVILLE/ASHEVILLE – Hinds’ Feet Farm, a leader in Brain Injury Services for North Carolina, was recently awarded a $45,000 grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation to support the Hinds’ Feet Farm Veteran’s Brain Injury Scholarship Fund.

“We are extremely grateful to the Well Fargo Foundation for their generous contribution,” said Martin Foil, Executive Director of Hinds’ Feet Farm.

The Wells Fargo grant will provide an opportunity for veterans to participate in Hinds’ Feet Farm’s innovative, community-based and post-rehabilitation day programs held at one of their two locations in Huntersville and Asheville. Read the full story

USA FIT Charlotte begins training for summer and fall marathons

CHARLOTTE – Charlotte’s Thunder Road Marathon kicks off its official training program – USA FIT Charlotte – Saturday, June 18 at 7 a.m. The 22-week session is open to anyone running a full or half marathon and is offered at all three Run For Your Life locations: Dilworth, 2422 Park Road; South Charlotte/Piper Glen, 6416 Rea Road; and University, 1816 East Arbors Drive.

Participation in the USA FIT Charlotte program includes: day-by-day training schedules; Saturday morning group runs; access to trained coaches; informational seminars; discounts at local retailers; and a T-shirt. Participants are also assigned to one of four groups so they can train with runners that keep a similar pace. Read the full story
