Have old medicines around the house that need to be discarded? On Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, from 9 a.m. to noon, the Cornelius Police Department will host an Operation Medicine Drop Event in the parking lot of Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Avenue.
Operation Medicine Drop is a FREE event that offers the public a safe and secure way to dispose of their medications. Residents can dispose of expired, unused prescription drugs or over-the-counter medications and keep them out of the wrong hands. (No needles or syringes.)
Unintentional poisoning from prescription medications is on the rise in North Carolina. Since 1999, nearly 4,500 people have died from prescription poisoning. Also, disposing of medicine in the trash or by flushing them down the toilet is harmful for the environment. (Operation Medicine Drop cannot accept biohazard materials.)
For more information about the September 29 Operation Medicine Drop Event contact Sgt. Brinzey or Betsy Shores at the Cornelius Police Department at 704-892-1363 or visit www.cornelius.org/police [1].
HUNTERSVILLE EVENT
Also, Huntersville Police will conduct an Operation Medicine Drop event Saturday, Sept. 29, 10am to 2pm, in front of the Harris Teeter, Northcross Shopping Center, 9759 Sam Furr Road, Huntersville. Law enforcement officers will safely and securely dispose of unused medication and containers. Please refer to www.levinechildrenshospital.org/operationmedicinedrop [2] for more information.
