CORNELIUS - This fall Community Yoga will offer yoga classes specifically for mothers and daughters in an effort to encourage healthy living and foster positive body image. The classes also will help the community, as Community Yoga will donate the proceeds to the Cornelius Animal Shelter.
“Yoga is so much more than the pose,” owner Amy Schneider said. “It really has more to do with the opening of your heart. We encourage families to reconnect in yoga by spending uninterrupted quality time with each other [and] by having fun.”
The mother/daughter classes start Sept. 9 and run through Oct. 7 and will guide the women and their daughters as they explore yoga and healthy eating, foster positive body image, and learn to listen to their bodies. An experienced instructor, Ms. Schneider also has taught yoga at local schools and enjoys doing yoga with her own daughters. The class is recommended for girls ages 6-12.
Community Yoga opened eight years ago in Cornelius, and giving back to the community has remained a goal of the studio. It has donated several thousand dollars to different charities over the years, through fundraising events and workshops like the upcoming mother/daughter yoga. The studio also demonstrates support of the community by keeping a section of N.C. 115 clean as part of North Carolina’s Adopt-A-Highway Program.
