Lake Norman Regional Medical Center is offering free diabetes education classes in November and December. Meanwhile, the hospital, off I-77 Exit 33 in Mooresville, also is offering free public seminars in December about a new technology for repairing osteoarthritis of the knee.

DIABETES CLASSES

Starting in November, Lake Norman Regional Medical Center will be hosting free Diabetes Education Classes. The first class will be held November 21 at 10am in Lake Norman Regional’s Community Room A. Classes will also be held December 5th and 19th at 10am.

Diabetes Education Classes will be taught by Melissa Herrmann Dierks RD, LDN, CDE. Each participant will receive a blood glucose monitor kit, a diabetes book, sample menus and a meal planning guide, a dining out guide, a grocery list, a simple diabetes recipes cookbook, and more.

NEW KNEE TREATMENT

James P. McDonald, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon with Northshore Orthopedic & Sports Medicine in Mooresville and Medical Director of The Orthopedic & Spine Center of Lake Norman, and David C. Hillsgrove, MD, also an Orthopedic Surgeon with Northshore Orthopedic & Sports Medicine, will present the new technology for painful osteoarthritis of the knee, MAKOplasty®, that is now offered at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Dr. McDonald and Dr. Hillsgrove will present free public seminars the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in the hospital’s Community Rooms A and B beginning December 13th and 20th, and continuing each month through 2012. The hospital is located at Exit 33, off of I-77, in Mooresville.

This free seminar focuses on MAKOplasty, a minimally invasive partial knee resurfacing procedure to treat early to mid-stage osteoarthritis. Using robotic arm technology, MAKOplasty can provide quicker rehabilitation and more natural knee motion post-surgery compared to a total knee replacement.
