The Town of Davidson Parks and Recreation department has announced a variety of fitness and health programs for October 2011, ranging from Zumba and Pilates to martial arts and a healthy eating class. Unless noted, all programs are at the Parks and Recreation office, 416 Armour St., Davidson.

Zumba with Tonya Reber
Join Tonya for a fun filled hour of exciting, calorie burning easy to follow dance moves like the merengue, salsa, cumbia and mambo as well as other styles including hip-hop and belly dancing. Zumba incorporates motivating Latin inspired music with body sculpting, fat burning and total body toning that will help you burn calories while improving flexibility and muscle tone. No prior dance skills are required. Tonya has more than 25 years of dance training, teaching and performing in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop and group exercise. She was Zumba certified in 2007 and teaches Zumba throughout the community.

Zumba/Zumba Toning with Karren
Zumba/ Zumba Toning is an exhilarating, effective, easy to follow, Latin inspired calorie-burning fitness dance. Get Fit, Rock Out and have a Blast with Zumba Instructor, Karren Purvis. Karren will provide the toning sticks for use in class. With these toning sticks, Zumba dancing will be raised to new heights. Dancing with these toning sticks will help you to have even more fun and will add extra dimension to your fitness. Karren is an official Zumba Instructor with certifications in Basic Levels I, II and Zumba Toning. She holds certifications with Aerobics and Fitness Association of America in Group Exercise and Pilates.

Clogging for Beginners with Vicky Conrad
A blend of Irish, Scottish and Native American dance steps, clogging is now North Carolina’s official State Folk Dance. Basic steps, clogging lines and Appalachian Big Circle will be taught to traditional music. Vicky has over 20 years of experience as a clogging instructor and is the founder and director of the award winning team: Clog Carolina.

Proof of ages is required for first time players (birth certificate).

Clogging for Youth Beginners with Vicky Conrad
Tame your child’s energy while developing his/her sense of rhythm and coordination! With an emphasis on footwork, clogging is a step dance which originated form traditional Irish and Native American steps. Clogging is now North Carolina’s official State Folk Dance.
