Davidson Parks & Recreation is offering a full schedule of health, fitness and wellness classes in March, from Zumba to yoga to tai chi. Here’s a schedule. Zumba with Tonya Reber
Join Tonya for a fun filled hour of exciting, calorie burning easy to follow dance moves like the merengue, salsa, cumbia and mambo as well as other styles including hip-hop and belly dancing. Zumba incorporates motivating Latin inspired music with body sculpting, fat burning and total body toning that will help you burn calories while improving flexibility and muscle tone. No prior dance skills are required. Tonya has more than 25 years of dance training, teaching and performing in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop and group exercise. She was Zumba certified in 2007 and teaches Zumba throughout the community.

Each session starts active (Yang) to warm and work the muscles and ends with still postures (Yin) to stretch your deep connective tissue creating more flexibility and joint mobility. Breathing techniques (Pranayama) and mindfulness practices (meditation and visualization) are incorporated into every class. Each class ends in shavasana (head, neck, and shoulder massage) with licensed massage therapists. Mats, blocks, straps and blankets are provided. All levels welcome. One month commitment required.

If you are brand new to running, or a runner who would like to improve your endurance and speed, this program is for you. You will be coached by Dr. John Bartemus of Transcendent Lifestyle Center, a wellness expert, doctor, and fitness enthusiast. Participants will receive a pre-training assessment to determine individual goals along with a training schedule for success. This program includes two group sessions per week for six weeks. The goal of Fit 4 a 5k is to develop the fitness skills necessary to complete a 5k or better, and to integrate several training techniques that will develop both physiological techniques and a healthy passion for running.
