Davidson Parks & Rec offers March and April programs

Davidson Parks & Recreation has a variety of fitness programs on the calendar in March and April, from Pilates and bellydancing to martial arts and yoga. Pre-registration is required. Register online at www.ci.davidson.nc.us or call the Parks & Rec office at 704-892-3349. Please note that all programs are held at the Parks & Recreation office, 416 Armour St., unless otherwise noted.

FITNESS PROGRAMS

Beginning Pilates
A strong core/abs is the essence of fitness. Using light weights, bands, and Pilates technique, increase flexibility and strength, decrease back pain, and feel better all over. A good class for those just starting exercise.
Day: Wednesday
Time: 6:30 p.m. – 7:25 p.m.
Date: March 31 – April 28 (no class on April 7)

Bellydancing
Express yourself, energize, synergize, with a 20-year veteran of this beautiful ancient art form. No previous dance experience required. All ages and fitness levels welcome! A good class for those just starting exercise. Dance your way to a new you!

Stretch and Strengthen
Work with a certified personal trainer to develop a routine you can do at home with little or no expense, equipment. By alternating stretching and strength excercises, you can maximize muscle efficiency and improve all around fitness. Small class, individual attention. Modifications given for all levels of fitness.

Zumba
Ditch the workout and join the party! Rev up your cardio, burn 400+ calories with the latest latin-dance based fitness class. No previous dance experience necessary. Class follows prescribed formula which is easy to learn and follow. Bring a towel and water. Dance your way to a new you!

Gentle Vinyasa
A combination of relaxing yoga poses that gently stretch and strengthen muscles. Linking breath with movement.

Gentle Yoga
Come to create balance and peace in your life by stretching muscles that you never knew you had.  As we begin to strengthen and open the body through these postures, asana, we also encourage concentration, find inner stillness, perseverance, patience, and self-acceptance, which, will benefit our mind and overall health.

Semi-Private Personal Training at Davidson Snap Fitness
Today’s hectic lifestyles mean you don’t have time to waste on ineffective exercise routines. Our certified personal trainers will lead a small group through an intense total body workout, 2-3x weekly for 5 week sessions.  Expect quick results from routines that encompass the three key areas of fitness—cardio, strength and flexibility. Weight Loss Challenge
The Weight Loss Challenge is a fun program that helps people develop better nutritional habits.  We teach people that in order to lose weight they need to eat a certain amount of protein and we help them with meal plans.  Each person gets a personal coach and the weekly weigh-ins helps with accountability. We offer our own weight management program through Herbalife; however participants are not required to join our program to be a part of the challenge.  Here are the subjects we cover during the 12 weeks:

 We weigh and measure the first week and then we weigh-in each week and take measurements again at the end.  The program is designed to calculate the percentage of body weight lost, so men and women can compete against each other. The entry fee is $35.00 for each participant and the cash prizes get paid out.  As with any health program, check with your doctor to confirm your clean bill of health.

Life Line Screening
Pre-registration is required. To register, please call 800-324-1851 and mention source code HSC 5421.
Ultrasound tests conducted by Life Line Screening will be held to determine the risk of stroke (due to carotid artery blockage), abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral arterial disease, atrial fibrillation and osteoporosis. These diseases are preventable and treatable if caught in time. Early detection is prevention.
Life Line Screening’s mission is to make people aware of undetected health problems and encourage them to seek follow-up care with their physician. You will receive your results in 21 days. Please call Michelle Petty, Health Service Coordinator, if you have any questions at 704-733-8289.

Requiring only one meter of space, Tai Chi for the Living Room is designed to provide students with all of the benefits of other forms of tai chi, but in 1/10 of the time and with 1/10 the frustration!
