MOORESVILLE – Lake Norman Regional Medical Center will hold a free educational seminar “Boost Your Weight Loss: Is Surgical Weight Loss Right for You?” on Thursday, Jan. 14, 7 p.m., at the Statesville Civic Center, 300 South Center Street, in Statesville.
Dr. Ryan Heider, Medical Director of the Center for Surgical Weight Loss at Lake Norman, will explain the procedure and process from the initial consultation to post-op nutritional counseling. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer period.
Morbid obesity is a life-threatening disease that affects over 15 million people in the U.S. A landmark study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that bariatric surgery improved or resolved type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea and high cholesterol in the vast majority of morbidly obese patients. Most patients had lost 55 to 70 percent of their excess weight one year after bariatric surgery.
