Mark Weiss, Education Director of Operation Respect and former New York City principal, will lead the workshop, highlighting Operation Respect’s “Don’t Laugh at Me” program and “Respect for All” program techniques.

Operation Respect is a non-profit organization working to ensure every child has a respectful, safe and compassionate climate of learning where their academic, social and emotional development can take place. Founded by Peter Yarrow of the folk group Peter, Paul & Mary, the organization disseminates educational resources designed to establish a climate free of ridicule, bullying and violence.

The Foundation for Respect Ability is modeled after Operation Respect’s mission and conducts anti-bullying concerts and related services throughout the Charlotte area.

Carolina Captured, a fall photographic workshop, is scheduled Oct. 9-11 at Wildacres retreat, near Little Switzerland, in the N.C. mountains. Led by Charlotte-area experts including Gary Kerr of Fine Art Impressions in Davidson, and Kelly Culpepper and Tim Buchman of Charlotte, the workshop has become an annual gathering for photo enthusiasts from around the country.

Mr. Culpepper said this week a few spaces remain in the workshop, where mid-October color is spectacular across the Blue Ridge. Wildacres is an artist retreat near the highest elevations of the North Carolina mountains. Extraordinary vistas, waterfalls and a mountainside orchard are just some of the locations on the itinerary.
