090514 skywarnMeteorology doesn’t necessarily require expensive equipment and years of training. With a few lessons, you can learn to tell whether a storm is approaching the old fashioned way – with the naked eye. Charlotte’s regional SkyWarn service will host a free “Storm Spotter” class on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, to teach techniques for understanding and predicting weather patterns.

The class will be taught by National Weather Service personnel, and is aimed at giving students an education in weather spotting.

The basic class runs from 10am-12:15pm, and following a 30 minute break the advanced class will begin at 12:45. The classes will take place at the Family Life Center at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, at 19600 Zion Ave in Cornelius.
