Charlotte Mecklenburg Storm Water Services will host two tree-planting events this month in north Mecklelnburg, and volunteers are invited to help out.
Through Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services’ Creek ReLeaf Program, trees are planted in “riparian” areas (along floodplains and stream buffers) of Mecklenburg County. The events are:
- Saturday, Nov. 15, 9 a.m. – noon at the Rocky River Nature Preserve in Davidson (250 trees will be planted)
- Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Henderson Park Neighborhood in Huntersville (1,750 trees will be planted)
As of February 2014, volunteers have planted close to 18,000 tree seedlings in Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s Briar Creek, Irwin Creek, Little Sugar Creek and McDowell Creek watersheds. The trees help improve air quality, water quality and habitat.
Registration is required for both events at www.creekreleaf.com. Questions? Contact Erin Hall 704-336-7980.
