Good turnouts have prompted Warehouse Performing Arts Center to add a week to the run of Don Cook’s comedy “Fast Trip to Omaha.” The show now runs through Sunday, Aug. 8. Meanwhile, Davidson Community Players’ production of “Noises Off” continues this weekend at Duke Family Performance Hall, and Masterworks School of the Arts presents its summer show “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” Friday and Saturday at Charles Mack Citizens Center in Mooresville.

Our community calendar this week in and around Davidson is full of activity, from a Davidson Planning Board meeting Monday night to three theater productions at week’s end – “Noises Off,” “Fast Trip to Omaha” and “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” Also on the schedule are children’s programs at Davidson Public Library, youth orchestra auditions, and a Friday night outdoor concert in downtown Mooresville with The Stranger, a Billy Joel tribute band.

Renaissance festival maidens.

The Carolina Renaissance Festival, a combination of outdoor theater, circus, arts and crafts fair, jousting tournament and feast, will hold open auditions for street characters, musicians, dancers and variety acts on Saturday, July 24, from 9 am to noon and Wednesday, July 2, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Spirit Square Arts Center, 345 North College St. Charlotte (parking available at the 7th Street Station).

In addition to the roles mentioned above, the Renaissance Festival is also seeking adult male actors to fill the roles of The Town Crier and Royal Guard as well as adult female actors to fill the role of Mother Goose. Read the full story

Two mid-summer theatrical productions open in the area this week – Davidson Community Players’ “Noises Off” and Warehouse Performing Arts Center’s “Fast Trip to Omaha.” Meanwhile, Davidson’s public library branch on the Village Green has a variety of events, from kids’ story time to a Tuesday “Lunch and a Movie” presentation of “A Shark’s Tale.” And Saturday night, there’s a Jazz in the Park concert at Bailey Road Park in Cornelius.

Our Weekend Calendar is shaping up as a good one, despite the mid-summer date. The weekend includes a performance by the Alabama Blues Brothers, a Blues Brothers tribute band, in a Concert on the Green Friday. Davidson Community Players’ Connie Co. teen workshop performs a children’s theater show called “The Connie Company: Wild, Woolly and Wonderful” at several locations. Saturday brings the weekly Davidson Farmer’s Market, the Lake Norman Excursion bike ride, and a Shoes of Hope free shoe giveaway at Ada Jenkins Center.

“Sorcerer’s Apprentice” opens at Our Town Cinemas. And in Mooresville Saturday, the Movies on Main series presents an outdoor screening of “Avatar” and Lake Norman Fear minor league football team hosts the Asheville Grizzlies.

Davidson Community Players are in the heat of rehearsals this week for the upcoming production of “Noises Off,” which hits the stage July 22 at Davidson College’s Duke Family Performance Hall.

Meanwhile, July 22 also brings an opening for “Fast Trip to Omaha,” a new local play at the intimate Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius.
