The Oscars air live on ABC this Sunday, March 2, and I, for one, am ready. I’ve watched the nominated movies and made my own predictions about who should win what and why. I’m sure I’ll both agree and disagree with the Academy’s winners and losers that night just as I’m sure Ellen, as host, will make me laugh. The spirit and glamour of award season, particularly The Oscars, is an escape for me. I also feel connected to something larger than myself as I think about my reaction to various films and actor portrayals and wonder how many others were similarly moved or share my opinion.

As much as I’d like to be there in person, who needs Los Angeles when we’ve got Lake Norman?

Walk the red carpet on Saturday for the Grand Opening of The Cabin at Davidson Landing’s North Harbor Place. Steps away from her successful Lake Norman Cottage, owner Trudi Zangardi has launched a new bar with a similar concept, yet completely different aesthetic. Rustic with a mountain lodge feel, The Cabin is the opposite of its light and airy neighbor. Both enjoy water views, while The Cabin adds piano and cigar bar to the overall experience. You’ll get to enjoy both on Saturday night as partygoers start at Lake Norman Cottage and proceed along the red carpet by the lake to The Cabin in the building next door.

Tickets are $25 for the evening. Guests will be treated to champagne, cocktails, and martinis with a menu inspired by Oscar nominees, including, but not limited to, American Hustle Layer Dip and Nebraska Sweet Corn & Potato Chowder. Best of all? Regardless of how your picks perform on the night of the Awards show Sunday, everyone leaves with a “Thank You Swag Bag.” Just like the stars at the big party in Hollywood… only, I don’t think these will be worth $80,000.
