Last month I had a crazy idea that I would “tri” it. Let me explain.

This year hasn’t unfolded as planned. Certain events plummeted life into a tailspin completely disrupting my routine. In the midst of interrupting the norm, willpower flew out the window. And by willpower I mean ability to not solve problems with cheesecake. 

I began the year with good intentions: running on the beach in January, 5Ks in the Spring, Cooper River Bridge Run in April. I wrote about these activities here, and my desire to be fit and active.

Then came an unexpected summer living out of a suitcase. I must have packed extra pounds because I’m wearing them. Desperate times called for desperate measures and I decided to do a triathlon. Which sounded like a good idea at the time and it felt good to say it — a vocal attempt to regain control and rein in my life and waist. I reached out to friends who wanted to do it and roped them into a plan. It was great.

Those plans have changed. Instead, I reined in the crazy idea. I was in over my head. Literally, the water was deep in some parts.

So, as it stands, this Sunday (Sept 22) I will cheer on my friends in the Charlotte Ramblin’ Rose Sprint Triathlon benefitting Tri It For Life and Girls on the Run. The goal remains for me to swim, bike, run. I want the magnet to go with 13.1 for my car. But, for now, I’m content to support them as they reach theirs.

Come out to support the athletes and become empowered with me. I think once I see it in person, particularly the transitions, I’ll be able to picture myself doing it.
