A reception is planned Friday from 6-8pm at Davidson Town Hall with artist and graphic designer Deanna Wilson of Davidson, whose paintings are on display this month in the atrium gallery. Her lively and colorful works range from landscapes to wildlife to still-lifes.

Ms. Wilson didn’t start out to be an artist. She graduated from college with a mechanical engineering degree, and spent 10 years at IBM Corp. in Charlotte before changing careers. She shifted to a job at IBM as a graphic designer, then went back to college to study graphic design. Since 1994, Deanna has worked as the lead designer for local marketing firm Granite Sky Design Inc.

While studying graphic design, Ms. Wilson discovered a passion for painting. Although her subject matter varies from picturesque landscapes to lively still-lifes to evocative portraits, each piece exudes a colorful energy.

“I paint from my heart, which apparently sees the world a bit more colorfully than it is in real life! Although I have used the medium of painting as therapy and self-discovery, most of my pieces merely express the beauty that I observe,” she says. “It is my hope that people will identify with the beauty and be moved to cherish and preserve this amazing world that God has entrusted and blessed us with.”

Friday’s reception is open to the public. The exhibit also may be seen weekdays during business hours. Davidson Town Hall is at 216 S. Main St.
