To raise a bit of cash, the clinic will host a “Raise the Roof Soiree” Saturday, March 20, at a lakefront home.

Also below: Free cone day is coming up March 23 at Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shop and they’ll let you be a guest scooper if you bring in supplies for Ada Jenkins Center’s Loaves & Fishes pantry. Meanwhile, Ada Jenkins Center’s Fire fund-raiser and 5k road race will be April 17. And it’s that time of year for fund-raising golf tournaments. Davidson Day and the Lions Club have April tourneys in the works.
RAISE THE ROOF SOIREE

The Raise the Roof Soiree for HealthReach will be at the Mooresville lakefront home of Ron and Amie Carroll on Saturday, March 20, from 7-10 p.m.

The Mooresville South Iredell Chamber Leadership class of 2010 is organizing the event.

HealthReach provides medical, dental, pharmacological, chiropractic and health education services. Patients have no health insurance including Medicare/Medicaid, and make less than 200 percent of the federal poverty level. The clinic pharmacy fills prescriptions for patients outside the area and includes referrals from the ADA Jenkins center in Davidson.

The need for these services continues to increase as the area population grows and the cost of affordable healthcare grows. In 2009, HealthReach saw a 50 percent increase in patient visits compared to 2008. The clinic is staffed to many health care professionals who donate their services.

Proceeds from the soiree will help pay for roof repairs and operating expenses. Tickets are $100 and include food, drink, silent auction, music.

RSVP by calling HealthReach Community Clinic 704-663-1992.

The Davidson College crew invites the public to a charity regatta for Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, March 20 at the Davidson College lake campus.

The college chapter of Habitat for Humanity will present craft activities for children and information about the organization throughout the day. Donations and proceeds from concession sales and merchandise sales will be donated to Habitat.

For more information, contact Davidson crew club president Bekah Landfried at 585-356-5296, or visit http://www2.davidson.edu/studentlife/stu_orgs/crew/.

Karen Toney, manager of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shop, 202 S. Main St., is organizing free cone day for March 23, which also happens to be her birthday. She’s looking for a few good scoopers to help dish out some of the 2,000 or so free scoops they’ll give away that day.

Bring in any needed item for the Ada Jenkins Center’s Loaves & Fishes Pantry – baby formula, diapers, pasta, canned food, toiletries, and other non perishables – “and we’ll add your name to a drawing for three lucky people to assist us on the best day of the year,” Karen says. The more you bring, the more you are entered. (Limit one entry per day.) Items will be accepted through March 20 at the shop.
