This weekend is full of theater, live music and fun to ring in the summer. To celebrate the end of the school year, Davidson IB Middle School alumni, friends and family are invited to join students and staff in a walk to the Green on Thursday. Touch a Truck is on Saturday where children can learn about specialty vehicles and heavy machinery at the McGuire Nuclear Station. The Davidson Farmer’s Market, Symphony in the Park, and the Birdsnest’s No Power Concert are also on Saturday. Finally, the Warehouse Performing Arts Center is finishing up its play festival on Sunday with a performance of “Grave Comedies.”

HUNTERSVILLE – The Charlotte Symphony will play a free outdoor concert on Friday, June 17, at 8:15 p.m. at McGuire Nuclear Station’s EnergyExplorium, off N.C. 73. Conducted by Albert George Schram, the symphony will perform a “Musical Travels” program. Read the full story

Lake Norman Big Band plays Monday at Amos' at the Lake.

There’s a good choice of events to keep you entertained this week. The Lake Norman Big Band is playing at Amos’ at the Lake on Monday and Pat Godwin from the “Howard Stern Show” is visiting the Comedy Zone on Tuesday. Wednesday is National Senior Fitness Day at Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatics and the documentary “Play Again,” which follows several children from their “high tech” world into nature for a week, will be playing at the Mt. Island Charter School, also on Wednesday. Green Drinks Lake Norman meets on Thursday with guest speakers from the Davidson Farmer’s Market. Cornelius is holding a Memorial Day celebration on Saturday and will feature a speaker, patriotic music and the groundbreaking of the Cornelius Veterans Monument.

A four-day Collectibles and Antiques show kicks off Thursday at the Metrolina Expo in north Charlotte, where you can find anything from home decor items to fresh produce. Saturday is packed with options, from the Charlotte Asian Festival and Dragon Boat races on Lake Norman to a Charity Ride & Poker Run for the Cornelius Veterans Monument to the Lake Norman Spring Music Festival at Kenton Place. Also Saturday, the Davidson Farmer’s Market is open, and it’s Davidson Town Day, including a 5k run, community service activities and a library book sale.

Series returns to Sunday-only schedule to aid merchants

The Davidson College Symphony and Davidson College Jazz Ensemble play the first Concert on the Green of the 2011 season this Sunday, May 1, from 6-8 p.m. on the Davidson Village Green. Their performance wraps up this weekend’s Davidson Art on the Green, a two-day festival of arts and crafts on the Green.
The concerts are back for another season, returning to a Sunday schedule this year – the first and third Sundays of the month – in front of Davidson public library at Main Street and Concord Road.
