And over the next two weeks, parents interested in learning more about the class or about CAP’s “Toddler Tunes” class are invited to preview the classes for free.]]> Starting this fall, the Community Arts Project, in partnership with the Town of Cornelius PARC Department, is expanding its music class offerings to include a class for babies up to 18 months. And over the next two weeks, parents interested in learning more about the class or about CAP’s “Toddler Tunes” class are invited to preview the classes for free.

Taught by music instructor Charity Helms, “Baby Beats” combines music and movement for babies, and provides an intimate space for mothers and babies to bond through dance, massage, and lullabies.

“The benefits of early and often exposure to classical music is well-known,” CAP Director Cathy Templeton said. And in addition to the developmental benefits, the class provides an opportunity for new moms to meet other new moms, she said.

In addition to Baby Beats, CAP offers its “Toddler Tunes” class for children ages 18 months to four years, introducing them to instruments, song and dance and setting a foundation for music appreciation through life.

Class sizes top off at 12, so interested parents should register early, Ms. Templeton said. Baby Beats classes meet Mondays from 9:10 to 9:50 a.m. and Toddler Tunes classes meet Thursdays from 9:55 to 10:25 a.m. Both classes run for 8 weeks and cost $60 for Cornelius residents and $70 for non-residents.

CONSIDERING A CLASS?

CAP offers four previews of each class for parents considering Baby Beats or Toddler Tunes as follows:

  • Baby Beats Preview: Mondays, Aug. 22 and 29, from 9:10 to 9:50 a.m., and Thursdays, Aug. 25 and Sept. 1, from 9:10 to 9:50 a.m.
  • Toddler Tunes Preview: Mondays, Aug. 22 and 29, from 9:55 to 10:25 a.m. and Thursdays, Aug. 25 and Sept. 1, from 9:55 to 10:25 a.m.

Interested parents must pre-register online or by calling the Arts Center at 704-896-8823.

ASPIRING ARTISTS UP THROUGH FRIDAY

This week is the last chance for community members to visit the “Aspiring Artists” exhibit that opened July 11 in the Cornelius Arts Center. The exhibit includes student work from CAP’s children, teen and adult classes, as well as work from summer camp students, and closes Friday, Aug. 19.

REGISTRATION FOR FALL CLASSES NOW OPEN

The fall session of CAP classes begins Sept. 12 and registration is open. Summer classes filled quickly, so parents are encouraged to register early for a spot in the fall classes.
