Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and other social media sites in Lake Norman are burning up with snapshots of actor Nick Jonas and a parade of local fans. That’s because the Jonas Brothers and Hollywood star is in the area to film a movie, “Careful What You Wish For.”

The star has been spotted hanging out in Birkdale Village, buying coffee at Starbucks and having his photo taken with lots of fans. Filming began Monday and continues for about a month.

Los Angeles-based Troika Pictures is filming “Careful What You Wish For” in and around Lake Norman, including Cornelius, Huntersville, Davidson, Mooresville and Belmont.

Jonas is a musician and actor who made his name as a member of the Jonas Brothers, a pop-rock band he formed with his brothers Joe and Kevin. He has been trying the serious stuff, too, recently winning awards for his role as the lead in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” on Broadway.

Other stars in the film include Isabel Lucas and Dermot Mulroney, who has been spotted dining at Alton’s Kitchen + Cocktails. The movie is directed by Elizabeth Allen, whose most recent film was “Ramona and Beezus.”

The producers have set up office in Jetton Village, Cornelius. They’ve also got a website, http://www.carefulwhatyouwishformovie.com/.

Movie-goers may pack a picnic and bring blankets or lawn chairs to enjoy the show. And boaters may anchor in the EnergyExplorium’s cove at the southern tip of Lake Norman. 

There will be free ice cream and glow sticks.
