The Vaughns and other parents and members of Congress have demanded a Congressional Hearing to investigate the deaths of Navy SEAL Team 6 members in Afghanistan. The soldiers were part of the team that raided the Osama Bin Laden compound. Just a few months later, many of those same SEALs were on a 50-year-old Chinook helicopter that was denied permission to fire upon their attackers over Afghanistan. They died when Taliban forces shot down the aircraft.

“One of the most valuable things we’ve learned over the past two years is that persistence pays off and that one person truly can make a difference if you determine in your heart that you’ll see something through till the end,” Karen Vaughn said in a press release. “Prayerfully, the hearings will be a launching pad to deeper discussions regarding the abuse of today’s military. It’s no longer time to accept the things we cannot change. It is now time to change the things we cannot accept.”

Lake Norman Conservatives typically meet on the last Thursday of the month. Meetings are open to the public and are designed to inform citizens about issues impacting our community, state and nation. The founders of the group are Carole Gibbons, Mary Lou Richardson and Sharon Hudson of Huntersville, and Vallee Bubak of Davidson.  Social hour runs from 6-7pm and the program starting at 7pm.
