It’s officially fall y’all, and you’ll have an array of seasonal events to consider this weekend – in between your fall-decor sprucin’, apple pickin’ and pumpkin-spice-latte sippin’ activities. Get out and enjoy the brisk air at the South End 5k Shuffle On or at the Jetton Village Lung Strong 5K and 15K. Discover Sailing at The Lake Norman Yacht Club, or shop at one of the three local farmer’s markets, or the Davidson Garden Club’s annual sale. Rural Hill offers the Amazing Maize Maze, a cornfield challenge for navigators. 

Will it be a film, show or music performance for you this weekend? We have a great selection. Get in some culture at Museum Day Live at the Aviation Museum or “Sunday Funday” at The Mint Museum in Uptown. It gets even better because we have a wine festival at the US Whitewater Center and a “Know Your Farms” tour. And what would a September weekend be without taking in some sports? Davidson College has just what you’re looking for! Details about these events and others are below, so grab your latte and read on!

Plan on incorporating sailing into your future. We’ll cross sailing and instructional training off your bucket list, because in conjunction with the annual Board Bash Regatta, The Lake Norman Yacht Club will offer just that on both Saturday and Sunday.

Visit with neighbors and friends this Saturday morning at the Davidson Farmer’s Market, the Downtown Mooresville Farmer’s Market or the Huntersville Grower’s Market which are all from 8am-12pm.
Be on Camden Road in the heart of South End for the 5k Shuffle through the trendy neighborhood’s Rail Trail beginning at 8am.

Is rapelling down 23 stories on your bucket list? If it is, then the Fifth Third Bank Center is where you’ll bravely be at 8am as Special Olympics North Carolina hosts “Over the Edge.” If you would like to play it on the safer said, the Davidson Garden Club invites you to its annual Sale on the Green from 9am-12pm, and the Cornelius Police Department will host a Document Shredding Event in the parking lot of Hough High School from 9am-12pm as well.

Ever ponder if anything in your garage, attic or closet may be of any real worth? If you have, then it’s time to dust off that antique watch, old nightstand or Grandma’s tea set and attend The Cornelius Historic Preservation Committee’s “Trash or Treasure: What’s in Your Attic?” event where experts in ceramics, paintings, books, prints, toys and much more will examine your hidden treasures.

If you haven’t been to the Carolinas Aviation Museum, Saturday would be a good day to check it out. In the spirit of Smithsonian Museums, who offer free admission every day, Museum Day Live! is an annual event hosted by Smithsonian Magazine and will offer free admission at the Aviation Museum to anyone who presents a Museum Day Live! ticket.

The Davidson College Office of Admission and Financial Aid invites high school seniors and their families to attend “Discover Davidson” and experience all that the college offers on Saturday from 11am-5:30pm. While you are on campus, catch the Wildcats field hockey team take on St. Joe’s or the Davidson volleyball team host VCU.

Who doesn’t love dining out at local farm-to-table restaurants? Ever curious which local farms are sourcing your excellent eats? Now you can find out at the “Know Your Farms” tour on either Saturday or Sunday. This self-guided tour will highlight 13 local farms in and around the Charlotte region.

Unwind at Uncorked, the US National White Water Center’s wine festival. The wine tasting begins at 1pm featuring a wide range of local, regional and national vineyards. Stick around afterwards for the center’s last evening of River Jam this season.

Relax in newly upholstered theater seats at the Armour Street Theater where The Davidson Film Club will show the film “Noise” at 7pm. Not far down the road, The Warehouse will present another production of “Fuddy Meers” for those who have yet to see this deliriously funny performance.

Saturday night concludes with Handsome Rebellion at Bacchus Wine and Tapas. Jimbo Chapman and Blue Monday will be at The Rusty Rudder, and Mike Alickeat will entertain you at Corkscrew.

Come out Sunday morning and show your support for Lung Cancer awareness at Jetton Village’s Lung Strong 5k and 15k. Enjoy live music, a wall of honor, massages, prizes, inflatables for the kids and more!

Continue the fun at Rural Hill’s Amazing Maize Maze, or bring the family to “Sunday Funday” at the Mint Museum. Enjoy family-friendly art projects, gallery visits, artist demos, and “Let’s Move!” yoga sessions. Color “outside the lines” with splashy painting projects, and ponder bold, brilliant abstract paintings in the American Art Collection.

Also on Sunday, join The Town of Matthews for ArtFest, a Fine Art and Master Craft Show featuring juried work that will take place outside Town Hall.

“Fuddy Meers” continues at The Warehouse and so does sailing training at the Lake Norman Yacht Club on Sunday. Enjoy an afternoon outdoors filled with live music on the lake at The Rusty Rudder, or cheer on the Davidson field hockey team as they seek a win against The College of William and Mary at 1pm.
