Numerous film and stage events are taking place across the Lake Norman region this weekend, beginning with Thursday night’s opening of the Davidson Community Players presentation of “Leading Ladies” at the Duke Family Performance Hall. The Rusty Knox Band plays a Davidson Concert on the Green Sunday. And the weekend’s film offerings include an outdoor “boat-in” screening of “Rise of the Guardians” on Lake Norman and Davidson Film Club’s “Gigante.” Read on for more highlights of this weekend’s calendar.

Friday starts off with The Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce’s Focus Friday meeting, which will focus on tax reforms approved at the N.C. General Assembly. Huntersville CPA Jay Lesemann will discuss the impact of the changes on businesses and individual taxpayers. Friday afternoon, the Cornelius Library continues its “Page to Screen” series with a screening of James and the Giant Peach, based on the novel by Roald Dahl, at 2pm in the library. The Davidson Community Players is seeking energetic and imaginative youth ages 12-18 for its annual Shakespeare Unplugged Workshop Production, and auditions will be held from 4:30-6:30pm at Armour Street Theatre in Davidson. Also on Friday, musicians Wally & Dave take the stage at the Wine Shop and Music Room in Mooresville, starting around 9pm.

On Saturday, The Improv Vikings continue their improvised acting course, Improv 101, at The Fox and The Hound at 11am. Visit their website, ImprovVikings.com, for registration information. Later that evening, the Davidson Film Club presents “Gigante,” a 2009 film by Uruguayan director Adrián Biniez at the Armour Street Theater in Davidson at 7pm. In Cornelius, the Cornelius PARC presents another film in its Outdoor Cinema “Boat-in” film series, featuring “Rise of the Guardians” at Ramsey Park.

The weekend ends with another Concert on the Green this Sunday, featuring the Rusty Knox Band. Bring a lawn chair and a picnic basket and celebrate the close of another great weekend.
