Want to get up close and personal with a few reptiles? Saturday, April 10, brings the 10th annual Reptile Day, at Davidson College Herpetology Laboratory. The program runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Blanche Knox Parker Garden, between Dana and Watson science buildings, off Concord Road.

Reptile Day is held in cooperation with Central Carolina Amphibian and Reptile Initiative, the North Carolina Wildlife Federation and Mecklenburg County Division of Natural Resources.

Student volunteers show live specimens of many local amphibians and reptiles for visitors to admire or touch. They usually have snakes, turtles, and frogs. Another highlight of the day is Davidson professor Mike Dorcas’s talk about venomous snakes. Last year’s even drew 800 people.
