The Rotary Club of Top of the Lake-Mooresville on Jan. 30 will host an automobile road rally, a 40-mile challenge over public roads, where speed doesn’t guarantee victory. Organizers say it’s “a treasure hunt on wheels.” The 40-mile cruise will certainly challenge your problem-solving, navigational, and observation skills. And it will raise money for Rotary charities. A fund-raising dinner headlined by auto racing executive Humpy Wheeler that had been scheduled Thursday evening, Jan. 21, at Davidson College has been called off. Organizers cited weak ticket sales for the event, which was to have raised money for Davidson College’s Catholic Campus Ministry. Read the full story

Davidson Historical Society is selling another Davidson-themed Christmas ornament this year to raise money for society programs. Also, Davidson Community Players is producing three performances of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” on Saturday at Armour Street Theatre to raise money for Davidson-Cornelius Day Care. And a “Toilet-Trees” drive is underway to collect household and personal items for families served by Ada Jenkins Center.

The 4th annual Trains for a Cure fund-raising model train display runs this month at the Montalbano home in Cornelius.
Tickets are now on sale for the 2010 Ice Gala, a fund-raiser for Davidson’s Ada Jenkins Center, which is scheduled Jan. 23 at the Peninsula Club. Also, a concert by The Beggar Boys at St. Alban’s Sunday will benefit the Mooresville Soup Kitchen. Meanwhile, the North Mecklenburg Rotary holds its annual Golf for Food fund-raising tournament on Monday, Dec. 14. And a series of special youth performances of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” at Armour Street Theatre Dec. 19 will raise money for the Davidson-Cornelius Day Care.
