The Davidson Film Club is now accepting subscriptions to its second series of international films, with screenings monthly from July through November at Armour Street Theatre in Davidson. Nick Jonas is still in the Lake Norman area this weekend filming a movie called “Careful What You Wish For.” And his fans keep running into him and snagging photos with the star.
These two Davidson Elementary third graders saw him in the Birkdale area on Saturday.
Los Angeles-based Troika Pictures is filming “Careful What You Wish For” in and around Lake Norman. Read more at carefulwhatyouwishformovie.com.

Turns out there are zombies walking among us here in the Lake Norman area. On Saturday, a swarm was spotted on Main Street in Davidson, joining in on the first Davidson Zombie Walk organized by Our Town Cinemas. It was a stunt to promote the new movie “Warm Bodies,” which opened last week, and to generate donations to the Loaves & Fishes Food Bank, at Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson.
Our Town Cinemas manager John Carpenter said the cinema hoped “it would be a fun community event to bring local residents together to get out and walk the town while also making the most of it as a benefit for the Ada Jenkins Loaves and Fishes Food Bank. Gigi Dover and the Big Love kick off a new First Friday concert series at Summit Coffee in Davidson.
This weekend will be a busy one, with a Zombie Walk in downtown Davidson Saturday to mark the opening of the film “Warm Bodies,” Lunar New Year fireworks at Davidson College, and the Davidson Housing Coalition’s annual Souper Bowl soup cook-off. The North Meck Rotary hosts its annual pancake breakfast on Saturday in Cornelius, while there’s another winter Davidson Farmer’s Market Saturday morning as well. The Davidson Wildcats have a home basketball game Thursday night against Samford and there’s live music at venues around the area. Read on for those events and more.

The Zombie Walk promotes the new film “Warm Bodies.”
Our Town Cinemas in Davidson plans a “Zombie Walk” through town on Saturday, Feb. 2, to help promote the new film “Warm Bodies,” which opens Friday, Feb. 1. The walk begins at noon, and includes a collection for local food banks.
The Zombie Walk will follow a route from Our Town Cinemas, in Sadler Square off Griffith Street, onto the Davidson College campus then down Main Street to South Main Square. It wraps up at Davidson Beverage Co., a specialty beer shop that the cinema says “would be a great spot for the after party. It’s also near other eateries, including Fuel Pizza and Carrburritos. The Vianello Trio performs Saturday in the Cornelius Concert Series at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Live music tops the schedule of events this weekend, from opera to a classical trio, and an open mic night at Kadi Fit to a CD-release party for Davidson’s Rusty Knox Saturday at Summit Coffee. Warehouse Performing Arts Center has one more performance Thursday of “The Last Five Years,” a concert version of Jason Robert Brown’s contemporary musical about the five-year life of a marriage. There’s a winter tailgate market Saturday morning at Davidson Farmer’s Market, and local residents plan a Day of Service Saturday at Ada Jenkins Center. Meanwhile, Davidson College’s basketball teams have several games, including the annual Kicks from Cats fundraising night Saturday, when College of Charleston plays the men’s team at Belk Arena.
