We’ve seen Charlotte Area Transit System’s Village Rider buses pass by on Main Street countless times, but realized we had no idea where the North Meck Village Rider actually went. So this week, we ventured a bit farther out of the area, riding almost the entire loop of the No. 97 Village Rider, and making a stop at the North County Regional Library on the way.

We stood in the heat outside Town Hall, waiting next to a bus stop sign and wondering when the bus would get there. Every time we heard a loud car going past, we looked up, hoping it was the bus, but it never was. The way the bus schedule works, we knew that it had to come between certain times, but not exactly when. So we stood there speculating about what we’d do if the bus didn’t come, and what passing drivers must think we were doing. Read the full story

This week, we steered our bikes to two local consignment shops, Brand Name Consignment in downtown Cornelius and New To You, in Davidson’s South Main Square. We discovered that both shops sell brand-name clothes in new or practically new condition, and have a very different feel from a thrift store like Goodwill or Salvation Army. However, the prices are definitely lower than at the original store, so if you are looking to enjoy some summer shopping while also spending less, be sure to check out these two locations. Town Day returns to its roots at this 40th anniversary
Annual celebration by focusing on community service

In May 1971, Davidson Mayor Tom Sadler issued a proclamation designating May 8 through 15 of that year “Clean Up” week and May 15 as a culminating event: Town Day, the first on record.

The reason for the designation, said Mayor Sadler, was to support the efforts of the Davidson Community Council, a group of concerned citizens who spearheaded an effort to clean up trash and debris around town, improve the aesthetic appearance of Davidson and promote a sense of self-betterment and closer ties among all citizens.

This year, in honor of its 40th anniversary, Davidson’s popular annual Town Day celebration is returning to those roots. Read the full story

A networking group for people in the renewable energy field called Green Drinks Charlotte is coming to Davidson at the end of this month. Organizers say the gatherings are meet-ups for people who work in the renewable energy, green and clean tech.

The last weekend in April traditionally brings with it the first Concert on the Green in Davidson. The series kicks off again this year with the Davidson College Symphony Orchestra and the Davidson College Jazz Ensemble on Sunday, April 26, from 6 to 8 pm. Read the full story
