Davidson Community Players will present “James and the Giant Peach,” adapted by Richard R. George from the book by Roald Dahl, March 29 to April 6 at the Armour Street Theatre in Davidson.

Dahl’s classic story of James’s fantastical journey of escape from his loathsome aunts comes hilariously to life in this exciting, peachy adventure. All tickets are $10 for performances at Armour Street Theatre, 307 Armour Street, Davidson.

Performances: Saturday, March 29, at 1 and 4pm; Sunday, March 30, at 1 and 4pm; Thursday and Friday, April 3-4, at 7pm; Saturday, April 5, at 1 and 4pm; Sunday, April 6 at 1 and 4pm.

Allen Rigby, Dylan Goodman and Blaire Ebert play leading roles in the Davidson College production of “Providence Gap,” opening March 26.

Davidson College’s theater season concludes this month with Appalachian-inspired musical “Providence Gap.”

The show, running March 26 to 29, is a journey of self-discovery and a celebration of North Carolina’s Appalachian heritage.

The opening production of the Davidson Community Players’ 2014 season brings a talented group of actors to the Armour Street stage to unravel an amazing story pulled from the archives of our nation’s history. To close its 2013 season, the Davidson Community Players in conjunction with Lux Radio Theatre have converted the compact Armour Street Theatre into the imaginary radio studio to produce, “Miracle on 34th Street”  during the holidays.

Davidson Community Players Executive Director Matt Merrell not only has cleverly adapted the Christmas classic into radio broadcast format, he also directs the show. The altered format means that instead of memorizing lines, the actors perform with scripts in hand. This technique requires an actor to portray a character encumbered by the need to read while interpreting a personality simultaneously. It’s a challenge. Although most of the cast is new to the Armour Street boards, they pull it off gracefully, maintaining the standards of excellence DCP is known to deliver. Read the full story

Broadway playwright Ken Ludwig and the Davidson Community Players have another hit playing on the Davidson College stage. “Leading Ladies,” which Thursday at Duke Family Performance Hall, is one of Ludwig’s most hilarious comedies.

A troupe of eight talented DCP actors keep the audience screaming with laughter for more than two hours delivering Ludwig’s lively comedy, abundant with improbable characters, wacky situations and a smattering of suggestive humor. Read the full story
