Cockman Family performs Sunday at Mooresville's Charles Mack Citizens Center.

MOORESVILLE – The Cockman Family from Sherrills Ford will visit downtown Mooresville this Sunday at 4 p.m. to help celebrate the holidays with a concert of gospel Christmas music.

The band includes four brothers, a sister, and their dad. They’re known for their bluegrass gospel style and their original arrangements of old gospel tunes. They’ve made nine albums, their newest being “It Was All About Love” in 2009.

The members are John Cockman Sr. on guitar, Caroline Cockman Fisher on lead vocal, John Cockman Jr. on fiddle and vocals, Billy Cockman on banjo/guitar and vocals, David Cockman on bass fiddle and vocals and Ben Cockman on mandolin/guitar/dobro and vocals.

The Cockman Family was named one of “The 12 Most Creative Families in America” by USA Today Weekend and American Greetings Cards. They’ve been nominated for Bluegrass Artists of the Year, Instrumentalist of the Year and Bluegrass Band of the Year by the Country Gospel Music Association. In 2006, Caroline Cockman Fisher became PowerGrass Radio’s Female Vocalist of the Year. Among these and other accolades, the Cockman Family was featured in the television program “Maker of the Stars: A Cockman Family Christmas,” that aired on PBS in 2003.

Sunday afternoon’s concert is at 4 p.m. in the Charles Mack Citizens Center, Joe V. Knox Auditorium, 215 N. Main St., Mooresville. A “Meet the Artists” reception will follow the performance.
