The funds help cover operating costs and allow the school to provide scholarships to families that could not otherwise afford to attend.

Amusements at the carnival will include a bounce house, classic carnival games, soccer demonstrations and games, a photo booth, face painting, live entertainment, and food and drinks. The ever-popular Pick-A-Prize is going to be a highlight again — carnival-goers get the chance to spin for a prize and pick from a huge table of toys donated by Schoolhouse families. Games will be suitable for toddlers, preschoolers and elementary-school-aged children.

There will also be a silent auction, featuring donated items from local restaurants and businesses, and raffle tickets for a variety of great prizes.

More than 3,000 people are expected, primarily families with young children.

Housed in a renovated 1925 schoolhouse, The Children’s Schoolhouse is operated by the parents of the children who attend. Parents maintain and clean the buildings and grounds, assist in the classroom, pay the bills, plan the field trips, provide community outreach and do all the fundraising. The curriculum is based on The Open Door School program based in Charlotte and offers a child-directed, multi-age learning environment.
