Know someone who needs a little help to get online? Charlotte Mecklenburg Library branches will host a day of activities called EveryoneOn 3.21 on Thursday, March 21, as part of a national day to promote digital literacy. The election season is fast approaching, and a pair of candidate forums are being held in Davidson this week. On Tuesday night, St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Davidson – with sponsorship from DavidsonNews.net – will host a forum for
candidates for the Davidson Town Board and mayor, while on Sunday at Davidson College, Davidson mayoral candidates John Woods and Vince Winegardner will face off in a Q&A session and roundtable.
And while we’re talking about politics, the Cornelius Town Board of Commissioners will also hold its monthly meeting on Monday night, and the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners meet Tuesday night in Charlotte. We’ve seen Charlotte Area Transit System’s Village Rider buses pass by on Main Street countless times, but realized we had no idea where the North Meck Village Rider actually went. So this week, we ventured a bit farther out of the area, riding almost the entire loop of the No. 97 Village Rider, and making a stop at the North County Regional Library on the way.
We stood in the heat outside Town Hall, waiting next to a bus stop sign and wondering when the bus would get there. Every time we heard a loud car going past, we looked up, hoping it was the bus, but it never was. The way the bus schedule works, we knew that it had to come between certain times, but not exactly when. So we stood there speculating about what we’d do if the bus didn’t come, and what passing drivers must think we were doing. Read the full story

Monday is full of Martin Luther King Jr. events, including a series of events at Davidson College. There are lectures, a walk around the campus and a gospel music concert. Continuing the MLK celebration, there’s a Community Convocation Tuesday night with poet Nikki Giovanni. Tuesday also brings the rescheduled Organ at Davidson concert featuring Thomas Warburton. A Davidson Music Department Faculty Recital is scheduled Wednesday, and the baroque Ensemble Vermillian has a recital on Saturday. The children’s production of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” runs Friday through Sunday and the Ada Jenkins ICE Gala is on Saturday to raise money for the Ada Jenkins Center.

Christmas in Davidson ornament 2010
The Town of Davidson and downtown merchants are selling the annual Christmas in Davidson ornament, which promotes the annual downtown festival and this year depicts and raises money for the campaign to keep open the Davidson public library branch. Also, the youth of Davidson United Methodist Church are selling box dinners Thursday night during Christmas in Davidson, to support a summer Costa Rica mission trip, and the YMCA is holding its annual Breakfast with Santa. And next week also brings the Red & Black Ball fund-raiser at Davidson College. Read the full story
