It’s summer’s swan song and while some of us squeeze in a last beach trip before fall rushes in, there’s plenty of activity here in the Lake Norman area. Outdoor concerts are on tap Saturday night in Cornelius, where the Chris Lane Band plays Country Night in the Park, and on Sunday, where the hometown Rusty Knox Band plays a Concert on the Green. Public meetings this week include the Lake Norman Marine Commission and Davidson Town Board and Design Review Board. The N.C. Baroque Orchestra plays a cool summer concert Friday night in Davidson, while Pawbrokers hosts a fundraising party Thursday in Mooresville. On Saturday, Aug. 11, Reed Gold Mine State Historic Site will be hosting its yearly “When Man And Nature Collide” tours. This program takes visitors to some of the least explored areas of the Reed Gold Mine with a site historian, N.C. forestry ranger, and wildlife biologist. Read the full story

Your weekend options are many and varied, from the Davidson Wildcats Fan Day on the Davidson Green Saturday to “The Fantasticks” at Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius to outdoor concerts in Mooresville and Kannapolis. Thursday night at Summit Coffee in Davidson, barista Jesse Vetrone and bandmate Mack Russum bring their two-man electronic music project Colours to the stage. It’s a hot summer weekend, but our list of  events is cool – ranging from a Billy Joel tribute Concert on the Green in Davidson, with The Stranger, to a concert by Delta Blues singer, guitarist and historian Scott Ainslie at Saint Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Mooresville. It’s Grin Kids Charity Weekend, a fundraiser to help send terminally ill or handicapped children on a Disney World vacation. It includes a golf tournament and a silent auction at Galway Hooker Irish Pub in Cornelius. Davidson Community Players’ production of Neil Simon’s “Rumors” continues on stage at Davidson College, while the Davidson Farmer’s Market is back with cooking demos, music and local food.
