The Huntersville Lions Club and Tenders Fresh Food Drive-In are teaming up to raise money for the Brighter Visions foundation which helps the visually impaired in North Mecklenburg and throughout North Carolina. Davidson Police Detective Steve Ingram will offer a program Tuesday night on “How Does the Davidson Police Department Solve Crimes?”  Ingram’s talk is the latest in this year’s ReadDavidson, a series of events surrounding the townwide reading of Wiley Cash‘s best-selling and award-winning novel “A Land More Kind Than Home.” Cash will be in town for a program on Oct. 24.

One of my favorite art festivals returns this Saturday, Oct. 5, in Sherrills Ford. Our neighboring town on the other side of the lake plays host to the 5th Annual Lake Norman Folk Arts Festival.

Beginning at 10am and running until 4pm, the event sponsored by the Hickory Museum of Art promises a beautiful waterfront location, the wonderful sounds of bluegrass music with live performances by “Still Pickin,” as well as talented artists. In addition to this, expect food vendors, a silent auction, and quilt raffle to be incorporated into the day. Read the full story

Celebrate the arrival of Fall this weekend with numerous autumnal festivals and events. The Davidson United Methodist Church Pumpkin patch opens today at the Molly McKay Youth House on Main Street, and will be open 7 days a week through the end of October. Also tonight, the Davidson Community Players open their presentation of Tennessee Williams’ short plays, with the first showtime at 8pm. Friday night’s show performance comes with another option: a reception with DavidsonLearns that includes cocktails at Sabi, a conversation with two directors and a ticket to the show.
