United Family Services hosts a free session “Bankruptcy Myths and Realities” on Monday, April 19, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at North County Regional Library, 16500 Holly Crest Lane in Huntersville. Beth Carter, a bankruptcy attorney with The McIntosh Law Firm in Davidson, will conduct the session, which will include explanations on what to expect if you file for bankruptcy, when someone should consider bankruptcy, and other options to explore. Light refreshments will be provided.

Davidson Community Players open their production of “Violet” on Thursday night for a 15-show run. “Violet” is an award-winning musical about the civil rights era, based on a short story “The Ugliest Pilgrim” by Statesville author Doris Betts. And coming up, the local theater calendar also includes a March 25-28 Davidson College production of Ken Ludwig’s “Leading Ladies,” a comedy about a pair of struggling Shakespearean actors in rural Pennsylvania.

On the cultural side side, Charlotte Writers’ Club North hosts writer Rand Brandes on Thursday night. And Tim Burton’s new film “Alice in Wonderland” opens Friday at Our Town Cinemas. Finally, for all you No. 30 fans: ex-Wildcat Stephen Curry makes his first appearance at a basketball game in Charlotte since joining the NBA on Saturday night, as his Warriors take on the Bobcats.
Davidson College hosts a variety of public events this month, including lectures by a pair of business celebrities: Duke Energy CEO Jim Rogers and Federal Reserve Vice Chair Donald Kohn. Other events this month range from a performance of the new music ensemble Yarn/Wire to an appearance by the noted critic Diana Hume George. A new exhibit opens March 11 at the college art gallery, featuring concrete and paper sculptures and new etchings by visiting assistant art professor Lydia Musco. The schedule also includes a variety of lectures, concerts and a Women’s Leadership Conference. Details below.
