The Charlie Daniels Band will headline the third annual Jail & Bail fund-raiser in support of the NASCAR-related Brienne Davis Scholarship Fund on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at The Brickhouse Tavern in Davidson.

At the annual fund-raiser, drivers, crew chiefs and other NASCAR personalities get “locked up” and have to raise money to bail themselves out. Proceeds benefit the Brienne Davis Scholarship Fund, in honor of the Universal Technical Institute graduate and Sprint Cup official who died in an auto accident two years ago at age 28.

The fund encourages women to seek careers in the auto industry and NASCAR. Since it started, the fund has raised enough money for 20 scholarships.

TASTE OF ART

The Community Arts Project, in the Oak Street Mill in Cornelius, will host its fourth annual “Taste of Art” fund-raiser on Tuesday, Oct. 5, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Fresh Market store, in Cornelius.

The event will include a wine tasting, food and an art auction. All proceeds will benefit the Community Arts Project, which offers classes for children and adults. Tickets are $30 Cash or Check and must be purchased in advance, by calling 704-896-8823. The event is for those at least 21 years old.

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AT LIBRARY

Davidson’s Library Task Force is in the midst of a $175,000 fund-raising campaign to help play for operation the local library branch this year. The campaign continues through Sept. 30, with donation forms available at the library, Town Hall, or online at www.savedavidsonlibrary.org.

As the campaign nears an end later this month, the task force will hold a 15th anniversary celebration for the branch on the Village Green on Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be events all day at the branch, and an evening program.

The current library branch was built in cooperation with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, the town and Davidson College. It replaced a smaller local branch at 212 S. Main St. Read more about the event and the task force fund-raising efforts in our Sept. 9 preview.

Amazing Maize Maze at Rural Hill
