Not exactly your idea of a fun weekend outing? I understand. But I also understand the importance of giving the gift of life. My blood type is O Negative and is almost always in short supply. It is the blood that is used in trauma settings when type isn’t known. Which, makes me everyone’s friend in an emergency.

This is important because giving someone the wrong blood type can be deadly. While other blood types can mix and mingle, I’m not so lucky. O Negative can only receive O Negative.

I’m one of those people who must carry identification so that first responders immediately know what I am. In a matter of life or death, it could mean death.

I like to do my part to ensure there’s enough O Negative on the shelf. Do yours to make sure there’s a variety. The first of several area blood drives is happening Sunday morning at Lake Norman High School, 186 Doolie Rd,  Mooresville between the hours of 8:30am and Noon.
