Historic Rural Hill is located at 4431 Neck Road in Huntersville

Well, if the last two weekends are any indication, this area’s going to the dogs. But that’s not a bad thing. Once again, canines take center stage at Historic Rural Hill in Huntersville for the 9th annual Bark in the Park Top Dog Festival. Sponsored in part by Purina and Harris Teeter, the event presents an entire day’s worth of activities and contests such as Cutest Puppy and Best Costume sure to amuse dogs and owners alike. The action starts at 10am with the last stage scheduled at 3:45pm.

Emceeing the event this year are three local radio personalities — Chris Allen of Tanner in the Morning fame on WSOC, Kiss 95.1’s Yankee Peete, and Phil Harris who hosts the morning show on the CBS affiliate WKQC K-104.7.

If dogs aren’t your thing, that’s OK. There’s enough going on this weekend to match most anyone’s interest. Earth Day, Farmers Market, Art on the Green, just to name a few. I love this time of year in Cornelius and Davidson. The beautiful flowers, the sense of renewal, the proximity to nature via the lake and various parks, access to the city (when traffic’s not backed up…) there’s just so much to see and do and be a part of in our little corner of the world.
