<p>The slam poetry group <strong>FreeWord Poets</strong> starts off the weekend by performing at a meeting of the Charlotte Writers&#8217; Club North Thursday night at Davidson College <strong><a href="http://davidsonnews.net/guide/files/2010/06/special-buttons7.gif"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-4015" style="margin: 8px" src="http://davidsonnews.net/guide/files/2010/06/special-buttons7.gif" alt="davidson weekend calendar" width="110" height="63" /></a></strong>Presbyterian Church. Also on Thursday are two educational sessions: the panel discussion &#8220;<strong>Iran: Addressing the Nuclear Threat</strong>&#8221; in Charlotte and an ethics forum about sex-trafficking in Latin America.  The Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville is hosting <strong>Going Red for Women Lunch &amp; Learn</strong>, a program on women and heart health on Friday. On Friday, there&#8217;s a <strong>Spaghetti Supper</strong> at Davidson Presbyterian, <strong>Stargazing</strong> at Fisher Farm and a <strong>Zydeco concert</strong>.<span id="more-6224"></span></p>
<p>Saturday is the<strong> Our Towns Habitat</strong> groundbreaking celebration for a brand new house that local students will build. There&#8217;s a fundraiser for the Hope House Foundation, two basketball games and the <strong>Apocalypse Greek Step Show</strong> on Saturday. Davidson College welcomes the <strong>Lunar New Year</strong> with performances and snacks on Sunday. The Warehouse&#8217;s presentation of <strong>Frozen</strong> continues this weekend, playing Thursday through Sunday.</p>

<p><strong>FreeWord Poets</strong>, 7 p.m., Davidson College Presbyterian Church, room 201 &#8211; Charlotte Writers’ Club North presents Davidson College’s slam poetry group<strong> FreeWord Poets.</strong> The 2-year-old group tells stories, plays with words and offers new perspectives on social justice issues. Last April, FreeWord placed in the top 10 at the national College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational (CUPSI) at Emerson College in Boston. <p>Davidson College&#8217;s theater department is gearing up for the upcoming production of &#8220;<strong>Kokoro</strong>&#8221; with a lecture series that begins with events Monday and Tuesday. The Warehouse Performing Arts Center&#8217;s play &#8220;<strong>Frozen</strong>&#8221; continues this weekend, with shows Thursday to Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Davidson Lands Conservancy and partners host <strong>a star-gazing party</strong> Friday. Saturday is the 7th annual <strong>Souper Bowl</strong> where patrons will be invited to sample soups provided by about 10 area restaurants. There are three <strong>Davidson College basketball </strong>games this week: the women against Elon on Monday and Western Carolina on Saturday and the men against Chattanooga on Saturday. Meanwhile, next Sunday, Feb. 6, is the NFL&#8217;s<strong> Super Bowl,</strong> but if football isn&#8217;t your style, the college&#8217;s Asian Culture &amp; Awareness Association will host a <strong>Lunar New Year celebration and fireworks</strong>.</p>
