There are a lot of good cultural events happening this weekend to get excited about. Friday, former president and general manager of Lowe’s Motor Speedway Humpy Wheeler speaks at Davidson College and there’s an arts festival at Cannon School featuring Omimeo Mime Theatre. Saturday is Ada Jenkins Center’s “Fire” 5k and BBQ Fundraiser. The Art on the Green juried art festival is Saturday and Sunday and includes live music and food. Davidson’s Farmer’s Market is open and North Mecklenburg High School is having a horticultural sale on Saturday morning. There’s a big outdoor spring music festival in Charlotte called AWOL, and the Queen’s Cup in Mineral Springs, both on Saturday.

Davidson’s annual Art on the Green festival returns to the Village Green this weekend, part of the April is for Arts celebration of art and culture in North Mecklenburg. Art on the Green includes food, music, and a juried exhibit and demonstrations of arts and crafts by regional artists.
The festival is Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 1, from noon to 4 p.m.

It’s Davidson College reunion weekend, with a horde of alumni due back in town for festivities on campus. Welcome alums! Elsewhere in town, it’s the annual Art on the Green festival downtown, the season’s first Concert on the Green Sunday (featuring the Davidson College Symphony and Jazz Ensemble), and an exclusive screening of the North Carolina-produced film “Wesley,” about the life of John Wesley.

Fund-raisers, meetings, and weekend arts on the Green

Our community calendar in and around Davidson this week includes fund-raising golf tournaments, another informal chat with members of the Davidson Town Board, and a variety of other meetings and music. Meanwhile, looking ahead to the weekend, it’s Art on the Green, the annual festival of art, crafts, food and music on the Village Green Saturday and Sunday. And the Davidson College symphony and jazz ensemble play Sunday night in the first Concert on the Green of the season. Read on for the details.
