The region&#8217;s Jewish community gathers at Davidson College Thursday night for <strong>Yom HaShoah</strong>, a Holocaust Remembrance ceremony. In Huntersville, get on your kilt for the 19th annual <strong>Rural Hill Scottish Festival and Loch Norman Highland Games</strong>. Saturday morning brings <strong>Earth Day</strong> activities in Cornelius and around Lake Norman, there&#8217;s a breakfast at <strong>Davidson Presbyterian Church</strong> and the <strong>Davidson Farmer&#8217;s Market</strong> is open until noon. <p>Also on the schedule: Davidson Community Players&#8217; Connie Company presents <strong>&#8220;A Bear Named Paddington&#8221;</strong> while Davidson College students perform a series of one-act plays. And there&#8217;s live music all weekend at local venues, including Summit Coffee.</p>

Art on the Green is also a juried art festival and features booths filled with top-quality art works and demonstrations from artists throughout the region. Free. <p><strong>SCOTTISH FESTIVAL</strong></p>
<p><strong>Loch Norman Highland Games</strong>, Friday through Sunday, April 20-22, Historic Rural Hill Farm, 4431 Neck Road, Huntersville. The 19th-annual Rural Hill Scottish Festival and Loch Norman Highland Games features a weekend full of professional Scottish heavy athletic competition, amateur heavy athletics, piping and drumming, highland dancing, Scottish country dancing, children&#8217;s activities, demonstrations and Rural Hill&#8217;s famous historic encampment. Returning this year are the &#8220;Kids Zone&#8221; and the popular Celtic Rock Music Stage including the Saturday evening concert. Professor Camilla Townsend of Rutgers University will present this year&#8217;s Kelley Lecture in Historical Studies on &#8220;Alias Don Luis: The True Tales and Amazing Adventures of a 1560s Algonkian Who Traveled Three Continents.&#8221; Her presentation concerns an indigenous man who was captured by Spaniards in 1561. Although the man spent the next decade with the Spanish, converted to Christianity, and won the love and respect of his captors, he would eventually lead a war party to kill Jesuit priests attempting to establish a mission in his homeland. His motives for doing so, Townsend will argue, are much more complicated than historians have generally allowed. There is no charge to attend the lecture. Meanwhile, there&#8217;s a planning board meeting in Cornelius Monday and Davidson&#8217;s Town Board meets on Tuesday. And there&#8217;s a preview screening of the movie &#8220;Bully&#8221; Thurdsay, sponsored by the Cornelius-based Foundation for Respect Ability.<span id="more-8786"></span></p>
<p>The annual <strong>April Is For Arts Gallery Crawl</strong> on Friday night in downtown Davidson features local galleries, businesses and Town Hall playing host to visiting artists and entertainers, and serves as the official start of the spring arts season.</p>
<p>In addition, the <strong>Connie Company</strong> &#8212; the youth performance group of the <strong>Davidson Community Players</strong> &#8212; will have free shows of <strong>&#8220;Alice In Wonderland&#8221;</strong> on Friday and Saturday, and the <strong>Davidson Lands Conservancy</strong> will have nature-themed artwork on display during its <strong>Toast The Earth fundraiser</strong> on Friday night.</p>
<p>The <strong>Cornelius ReStore</strong> &#8212; the <strong>Our Towns Habitat for Humanity</strong> store &#8212; will hold its <strong>grand reopening</strong> on Saturday after being shut down for a week undergoing major renovations.</p>
<p>And if you&#8217;re looking to get the kids out of the house, check out the <strong>Lake Norman YMCA Family Fun Day</strong> on Saturday morning in Cornelius, a day of fun, games and lake activities. Or travel to <strong>Discovery Place Kids</strong> in Huntersville, where they&#8217;re holding Fun Friday all day.</p>

<li>Looking to get in a good run? Check out <strong>Summit Coffee&#8217;s &#8220;Run With Summit&#8221;</strong> on Thursday afternoon. The group run will begin around 5:30 p.m., and is followed by a round of drinks.</li>

Saturday is Ada Jenkins Center&#8217;s<strong> &#8220;Fire&#8221; 5k and BBQ Fundraiser.</strong> The <strong>Art on the Green</strong> juried art festival is Saturday and Sunday and includes live music and food. <strong>Davidson&#8217;s Farmer&#8217;s Market </strong>is open and North Mecklenburg High School is having a <strong>horticultural sale</strong> on Saturday morning. There&#8217;s a big outdoor spring music festival in Charlotte called <strong>AWOL</strong>, and the Queen&#8217;s Cup in Mineral Springs, both on Saturday.</p>

NBA Golden State Warrior Stephen Cury, a former Wildcat, will be on campus for the weekend along with his former teammate and one-time roommate Bryant Barr, who started the event in 2008. It&#8217;s a fund-raiser for Nothing But Nets, which provides mosquito nets to prevent malaria in Africa, and for Freedom from Hunger that provides health education for women in Africa. <p>Davidson&#8217;s annual <strong>Art on the Green</strong> festival returns to the Village Green this weekend, part of the April is for Arts celebration of art and culture in North Mecklenburg.  Art on the Green includes food, music, and a juried exhibit and demonstrations of arts and crafts by regional artists.</p>
<p>The festival is Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 1, from noon to 4 p.m.<br />
<span id="more-6814"></span></p>
<p>Musical performers include Jim Ray, Matt Stratford, The Merrows and Tom Billotto and dancing by the Community School of Davidson dance students.</p>
<p>Davidson Historical Society will also offer walking tours of the historic downtown district during the event beginning at 1 p.m. both days.</p>
<p>Food will be available from <strong>Flatiron Kitchen &amp; Taphouse</strong> and <strong>Donato’s Pizza.</strong></p>
<p>“We’ve got a great line-up of incredibly talented artists coming to Davidson this weekend,”  Davidson Downtown Manager Kim Fleming said in a press release. “We’re hoping that Davidson residents and residents from across the region will stop in to check out the festivities.”</p>
<p>Sunday after the festival closes, it&#8217;s the opening concert in the 2011 Concerts on the Green series, featuring Davidson College Symphony and Jazz Ensemble. <p>The town of Davidson and local merchants will host the annual April is for Arts Gallery Crawl on Friday, April 8, from 6 to 9 p.m. at local businesses, restaurants, galleries and Town Hall. <span id="more-6621"></span></p>
<p>A total of  31 businesses will participate this year, including two in the North Harbor area. Flatiron Kitchen &amp; Taphouse and the Brickhouse Tavern are also in on the crawl.</p>
<p>About 50 regional artists will display works in a variety of media, from painting to pastels to photography and jewelry. Some of the artists also will be at the town&#8217;s Art on the Green festival April 30-May 1.</p>
<p>Participants will be able to park at one of nine stops in Davidson and ride to different venues on a trolley, where they can enjoy the art, live music and refreshments.</p>
<p>This event is free to the public and is part of April is for Arts, a celebration of arts and culture in North Mecklenburg.</p>
